Our clients - a very busy family of five needed more space to cook, live and entertain. Our firm was brought in to discuss ways of enlarging the kitchen in order to make it much more functional. The original layout was very closed and we wanted to open it up in order to make it more family friendly.
It was becoming apparent that an addition was in order if we were going to meet this large family’s needs.
Our solution – a two storey addition on the back of the home with lots of fenestration on both levels to take advantage of the large backyard views. In order to keep costs in check, we designed a simple face lift on the front of the home in order to give the home more curb appeal and a much nicer entry. We combined the existing kitchen and dining area to create a large open concept kitchen and re-located the dining room into the brightest room in the house - the addition. A space designed with entertaining and large gatherings in mind.
CUSTOM BATHROOM 91 sq.ft. or more
Nick named, The Hillside Home, the master bedroom, ensuite and Walk-through closet, are located on the top floor of a stunning home which cuts into the side face of a hill. As the master bath faces an organic back terrace, surrounded by nature, the design ideology was clear. Create a space where form and function are one and whereby the form is determined by nature and that the selection of interior finishes are also nature driven.
The windows were specifically designed to work with the interior design of this space… A pedestal tub majestically sits directly in front of a three foot wide, full height, window allowing for a serene, nature driven, bathing experience. A small marble shelf, adjacent to the tub allows for the addition of candles and beautiful plants, adding greenery and tranquility to the already serene, ambiance.
A unique detail in this space is the privacy carved away and created for the toilet tucked away behind a shoji screen inspired wall. The mullion of the ‘shoji screen’ is specifically located to also act as a door stop for the custom made, pocket door. A space where….Form – Function – Nature…. Become one.
